FIRST READING

A reading from the book of the prophet Daniel (12:1-3)

At that time Michael, the great prince,
the protector of your people, shall arise.
There shall be a time of anguish,
such as has never occurred since nations first came into existence.
But at that time your people shall be delivered,
everyone who is found written in the book.
Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
some to everlasting life,
and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky,
and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.

The Word of the Lord.
All:  Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM (Psalm 42)

Reader: My soul is thirsting for God, the God of my life.
(Response.)

As a deer longs for flowing streams,
so my soul longs for you, O God. (Response.)

My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God.
When shall I come and behold
the face of God? (Response.)

These things I remember,
as I pour out my soul:
how I went with the throng,
and led them in procession to the house of God,
with glad shouts and songs of thanksgiving,
a multitude keeping festival. (Response.)

SECOND READING

A reading from the second letter of Paul to the Corinthians (4:13–5:1)

We know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus,
and will bring us with you into his presence.
Yes, everything is for your sake,
so that grace, as it extends to more and more people,
may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.
So we do not lose heart.
Even though our outer nature is wasting away,
our inner nature is being renewed day by day.
For this slight momentary affliction is preparing us
for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure,
because we look not at what can be seen
but at what cannot be seen;
for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.
For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed,
we have a building from God,
a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

The Word of the Lord.
All:  Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL

A reading from the holy gospel according to Matthew (11:25-30)

At that time Jesus said,
“I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent
and have revealed them to infants;
yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father;
and no one knows the Son except the Father,
and no one knows the Father except the Son
and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me;
for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

The Gospel of the Lord.
All:  Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

Let us pray to the Father that all may come to share in the new life Christ has brought us through his suffering, death, and resurrection.  Full of hope, we pray:

(Response) LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Reader:
For LOURDES,  who in Baptism was given the pledge of eternal life, that she may now be admitted to the company of the saints (Response.)

For LOURDES, who ate the Body of Christ, the Bread of Life, that she may be united with Christ in the new life of the Resurrection. (Response.)

For those who have fallen asleep in the hope of rising again, that they may share in the glory of the Resurrection.
Let us pray to the Lord. (Response.)

For the family and friends of LOURDES, that they may be consoled in their grief by the Lord, who wept at the death of his friend Lazarus.
Let us pray to the Lord. (Response.)

For all of us gathered here that we may draw strength and courage in the promise of the Resurrection.
Let us pray to the Lord. (Response.)

Heavenly Father, look with love on all your children and guide us in our pilgrimage towards the heavenly feast in your Kingdom.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.  AMEN.
